999 or Local Police Station ?
The last thing you need is to worry about which number to call when you need the police.
999 is as always the emergency number, if the incident is seious needs immediate police attendance, of an actual crime is in progress - dial 999, especially if there is risk of injury or risk of serious damage to property.
Be mindul that if you call 999 other than in an emergency, there is a risk that you prevent another caller with a real emergency from receiving urgent police assistance.
Non Emergency Police Number.
Hertfordshire non emergency number is 0845 33 00 222, it is a local rate number from anywhere in the UK.
You can also visit your local police station, but ensure it is manned or has telephone access.
When you do call, keep a pen and paper handy because the operator will take your details, record what happened and allocate a crime reference number. This reference number will help with any queries you may have later and you may need it for insurance claims.
An officer or member of police staff will be appointed to deal with your case. They will contact you and, if appropriate, will make arrangements to take a statement from you.
