Home Office - Using science
and technology to stop terrorism
14 August 2009
The Home Office is working with scientists, industry experts and academics
to find groundbreaking new ways to combat the threat of terrorism.
The plans are part of their new
three-year science and technology counter-terrorism strategy
The strategy looks at how the Home Office can:
understand the threat of future attacks
develop effective solutions to stop terrorism
work with our international partners to use science
and technology to stop terrorism
Help for experts
They have also produced a brochure,
which will help science and technology experts get in touch with the
right people for funding, support and sharing ideas.
The strategy and brochure both outline what the key challenges are,
and invite experts to get in touch to see if they can contribute to
the work being done by government, police, the military, security
services, as well as the wider counter-terrorism community.

Minister Lord West said that The Home Office needs to use their
position as a world leader in science and technology to counter
the 'real and serious threat from terrorism.'
He said, 'We need to match products and ideas to problems, which
is why we are actively inviting people to join us and share expertise.
'The UK is a leading innovator in the design and provision of
defence and security solutions. British technology can have greater
practical applications across the world and is just one more tool
in our fight against those who would wish to do us harm.' |
